Geography in the Early Years Foundation Stage

Within the Early Years Foundation Stage, Geography is delivered through the area of Understanding the World: People, Culture and Communities The children work towards the Early Learning Goals as set out in the EYFS through continuous provision and adult-directed activities

Children develop crucial knowledge, skills and understanding that help them to make sense of the world; these form the foundation for geographical work in KS1. They observe, find out about and identify features in the place they live and the natural world. Children find out about their environment and talk about those features they like and dislike. We create simple maps, plans, paintings, drawings and models of the local area and imaginary landscapes. Children in FS2 use role play, imagination and celebration to explore cultural differences and similarities in the world around them.
