Final Friday (17/7/20)!
Well it's here, the final day of Year 4! I can't believe how fast this year has gone and I have missed teaching you all everyday. You are such wonderful children who make me smile and laugh, even from a distance, and you're going to be fantastic year 5s, Miss Arden is lucky to be getting such an enthusiastic class who love to learn. You have all coped so well with things changing and I am so proud of you. I am going to miss you all immensely next year but I will do my best to keep in touch and I may even come to visit when I'm on my holidays from Brazil. Thank you to all your parents who have been helping you learn at home, have been so understanding when things have been changing and have continued to keep me updated with how you're getting on (you've done a great job, especially with the maths!). Thank you as well for all the lovely presents I have been receiving, it is so kind of you to get me such thoughtful cards and gifts. I hope you all have a lovely summer holiday and I wish you all the best for year 5, you'll be fabulous!
Oh and today... well it's toy day so relax, have some fun and I wonder if you can complete the 'no screen challenge'!
Goodbye my wonderful year 4s!
Thoughtful Thursday (16/7/20)
Bonjour! Wow, I am so impressed with your Carnaval costume designers, they are so colourful! I have also been enjoying reading your book reviews on Purple Mash, it's been so nice to see what you have enjoyed reading this year. Today you're carrying on with this idea and recreating the front cover of your favourite book (don't worry, it doesn't have to be the one you've written your book review on). You can create it however you like, you could even imagine yourself in the story! This afternoon is film time. Relax and enjoy your time with your family and escape to a magical world. Also, there is an opportunity for those of you at home to come and see me and say goodbye and collect your books from this year between 1:30 and 2:30pm. It would be lovely to see you all who can make it.
If I don't see you, have a lovely day!

Wonderful Wednesday (15/7/20)
Buenos dias! Did you enjoy your trip down memory lane? I do hope so. Start your day off with some ttrockstars then you'll be thinking about your favourite book and writing me a review of it on Purple Mash. This afternoon is Sports Day!! Take this time to have a go at some of the challenges in the document below and see how well you do. You could compete against your family members or even a friend from our class by asking your parent nicely to contact them. I wonder what your favourite activity will be.
Have a great day!

Terrific Tuesday (14/7/20)
Bom Dia! How did you all get on with your letters to Miss Arden yesterday? I hope you all told her how wonderful you are! Today we're looking back on our time in year 4 and, although we didn't quite get a full year together in the classroom, we've had lots of fun experiences like going to the cinema, singing in the church at Christmas and all the fun science experiments we've done. Look back at our class page to refresh your memory on everything we've done. You could even include some of your favourite lockdown memories. This afternoon, we're carrying on looking at Carnaval and you're going to have a go at designing your own Carnaval outfits. They must be bright, colourful and full of fun! I can't wait to see what you create.
Have a great day!

Marvellous Monday (13/7/20)
Good morning my wonderful year 4s! It's the final week of term, your final week of being in year 4, can you believe that! I am so proud of how well you've all done this year, even from a distance, and I know you'll be amazing year 5s. But before you get there, you've got one last week of year 4 tasks to complete. I've put together a timetable that hopefully mixes work with some fun activities and even a few Brazil related tasks too. Today you have maths as normal, then for English you're going to write a letter to Miss Arden to introduce yourself so she'll know a little bit about you before you get to year 5. Then this afternoon it's party time as we learn about Carnival in Brazil!
Let's have a wonderful start to the week!

Fantastic Friday (10/7/20)
Kalimera! It's the end of our first week learning about Brazil and I've learnt some interesting facts such as the Amazon Rainforest is home to the only species of frog that eats fruit and the football stadium in Rio de Janiero held nearly 200,000 people for the World Cup final in 1950! I wonder what you've learnt so far.
Start your day of with the times tables check which is set as a 2Do on Purple Mash and then complete 10/15 minutes of ttrockstars before completing your timetabled work. This afternoon will be our last coding lesson so I have set a free code session for you to create whatever you want! Try to use all that you have learnt so far and show off your wonderful coding skills. For PE you're going to have a go at Capoeira, a Brazilian martial art, I tried this with my bubble in school on Wednesday and we had lots of fun learning the steps as well as learning some new Portuguese words.
Have a great day and a lovely weekend!

Buenos Dias! How are we all? Thank you to all those who have sent their commented on and signed reports back to school. If your parents haven't done this yet, please can you ask them to do this as soon as possible.
Start today with 3 lessons of IDL and then start on your timetabled work. Today is the last day you'll be working on your Aliens booklet so you will have chance to say what you have learnt and what you have enjoyed. Then, this afternoon, you're going to do some more research on Brazil using the National Geographic website and Kiddle and then create an information sheet all about Brazil on Purple Mash. Don't forget, you can include any information you have already found out this week as well! I can't wait to read all that you have found out, I'm sure you'll be able to teach me something new too.
Have a thrilling Thursday!

Wonderful Wednesday (8/7/20)
Guten Morgen! I hope you all enjoyed getting creative and producing graffiti art like Wark. I would love to see what you have created so don't forget to send me any pictures of the work you're proud of. It's now been around 40 days since we mummified our tomato so have a look below for the video and pictures to see what it looked like.
Today I'd like you to start off the day with 10/15 minutes of ttrockstars and then you can have a go at your timetabled work. Today's Brazil themed task is linked to our science as we are looking at the Amazon Rainforest to see why it is important for our planet and what is happening to it.
I hope you have a lovely day and enjoy learning about the Amazon Rainforest!

Terrific Tuesday (7/7/20)
Bom dia! Look at me go, using my Portuguese! I do hope you had fun learning some greetings in Portuguese yesterday, I think it's a really fun language to speak as there are lots of fun sounds. Today's Brazil themed task is art. You're going to have a go at creating a piece of graffiti art based on the work of Wark who lives in Rocinha, Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. I met Wark when he came to the school I was working in last time I was in Brazil as he was a torch bearer for the Olympics in 2016 and I've attached a photo under this message. He creates angels that show all kinds of ideas in different styles, watch the video and look at the examples below this message then have a go at creating your own!
Have a go at doing 3 lessons of IDL before starting your timetabled work and you will find all the sheets and links below.
Happy creating!

Majestic Monday (6/7/20)
Good Morning wonderful year 4s! I hope you all had a relaxing weekend and didn't get blow away yesterday! As most of you know by now, I will not be coming back to Thingwall in September. I'm very sad to be leaving, especially as I haven't seen many of you since March, but I was only here whilst Miss Arden and Miss Collins had their babies and this means a new adventure for me. Next academic year, I will be teaching a year 4 class in a British school in Brazil! So, Mrs Evans has decided to make the next two weeks a Brazilian fortnight where we can learn all about Brazil! As you'll see in our timetable there are lots of Brazilian themed activities to have a go at from learning Portuguese to practising capoeira (a Brazilian martial art). I hope you'll enjoy learning all about Brazil and maybe you will be able to teach me something new!
Start off your day with the final spelling test of the year (from your spelling book anyway), which is week 36 in your spelling book, or complete one of the spelling tasks on Purple Mash. Then start on your timetabled work, you'll find all the links and sheets you need below.
Have a great day!

Fabulous Friday (3/7/20)
Buenos dias! A couple of notices before we get down to our lovely learning for Friday. Please have a read of the message in red in the next column about music lessons, unfortunately our recorder lessons were cut short but if you would like to learn a new musical instrument with our fabulous Ms Laird or Mr Thomas then please do ask your parent to get in touch with school as soon as possible. Also, you should have all now received your reports (if not they're on the way) we kindly ask that your parent comments on and signs one copy and then sends it back to school.
Ok Friday... so times table test! Complete the multiplication check set as a 2Do on Purple Mash then complete 10/15 minutes of ttrockstars before moving on to your timetabled work. Maths is Purple Mash and ttrockstars or the Bitesize challenge, English is reading a book on Bug Club and then there is PE and computing to complete. Some of you found the computing work quite tricky last week so try your best and don't forget to click the question mark and hint button and it will help you out.
Have a fabulous Friday and a relaxing weekend!

Thrilling Thursday (2/7/20)
Bonjour! How is everyone today? I hope you're enjoying this week and learning some new things along the way.
Start your day with 3 lessons of IDL and then off you go onto your timetabled work. Today's history work is finding out about everyday life for Ancient Egyptians and there's even a recipe for Egyptian bread so if you're feeling brave and your parent is happy to help you could have a go at a new recipe. Don't forget to send me photos if you do! Also our assembly question for today is 'Why do we have statues?', I wonder if you can think of any statues you may have seen locally, what are they of and why do you think they are there?
I hope you have a fun day!

Wonderful Wednesday (1/7/20)
你好 (Ni Hao)! Happy first of July, can you believe we're in July already! It feels like such a long time ago that we were all together and I'm missing you all greatly but you're all doing such a wonderful job of learning at home (parents too). Soon it will be the summer holidays and you'll be on your way to year 5! But not just yet, there's still work to do...
So start off with 10/15 minutes of ttrockstars and then continue with your timetabled work. Maths and English as normal and then science involves making our planet a better place and PSHE is looking forward to future jobs. I wonder if you've changed your mind from the start of the year about what you want to do when you grow up?
Happy learning!

Guten Morgen! What a windy start to the week, I hope no one got blown away!
Start today off with 3 lessons on IDL before starting on today's timetabled work. We're carrying on with charts in maths and our alien booklet in English. Then you're going to have a look at the New Testament in RE and try creating your name in hieroglyphs in art. You could also look on the British Museum website to have a look at some other Ancient Egyptian art and artefacts.
Don't forget to send me any photos of your creations and have a fabulous day!

In maths you will be looking at graphs and charts, in English you will be doing some dictionary work today and then carrying on with your alien booklet, and you have a whole host of other activities to have a go at.
Keep up the hard work Year 4, you're all doing an amazing job. Have a wonderful week!

Fantastic Friday (26/6/20)
Bonjour! Well it's certainly been warm. I hope you've been giving your sunflowers plenty of water so they can grow nice and tall. I have enjoyed reading some of your fact files on Egyptian gods and goddesses on Purple Mash, I hope you enjoyed the song too!
Today, start off with the multiplication check set as a 2Do on Purple Mash. Then do 10/15 minutes of ttrockstars practice before getting on with your timetabled work. You have another computing challenge which I know a lot of you have been enjoying and another chance at trying the triple jump in PE.
Have a wonderful day and a lovely weekend! Speak to you on Monday.
Thoughtful Thursday (25/6/20)
Bom dia! Wow, wasn't yesterday warm and today it's supposed to be even warmer! Make sure you're keeping hydrated and wearing plenty of sun cream if you're spending time outside today.
Start your day with 3 lessons of IDL before starting on your timetabled work. Today is your final maths lesson on money and the last day we will be working on our Talk4Writing booklet this week (we will carry on next week). Then in topic we will be looking at Egyptian gods and goddesses, including an amusing song just for fun) and we have our assembly question which is "Should zoos have been allowed to open earlier?". I wonder what you think about zoos and other things such as restaurants opening. For those of you having trouble accessing the timetable (key worker children in school mainly) I have included the links for todays activities below:
Have a great day!
P.S Look below for some photos of my dog enjoying her birthday :)
Wonderful Wednesday (24/6/20)
Buenos Dias! Today is my dog's birthday and she's 13, which is very old for a dog, so she may get a special treat for her tea! I wonder what you favourite treats are for when you're celebrating.
Anyway... start off today with some ttrockstars and then move on to your timetabled work. Maths and English as normal then you're going to do some research on different things that contribute to climate change and for PSHE we will look at our final video in the Brain Lab series on Mental Health. As usual, all the resources you need can be found below this message.
Hope you have a wonderful Wednesday!
Terrific Tuesday (23/6/20)
Καλημέρα (Kalimera)! I hope you all enjoyed making some music yesterday and, if you did the recorder lesson, seeing Ms Laird's face. Today I would like you to do 3 lessons of IDL before starting on your timetabled work. Like I said yesterday, English is slightly different as we will be completing activities from a Talk4Writing booklet which is attached below or can be accessed by the link in the timetable. Because this is something new, I've had to guess at how much work you can complete in an English session so if it's too much to do in one go, don't worry just do what you can and please let me know so I can make changes for next week. Also, today is the last day I'm setting your canopic jar art project as a task (although you can still work on it if you want) so well done to those who've already had a go and sent me some pictures and I look forward to seeing what the rest of you create.
Have a wonderful day!
Magnificent Monday (22/6/20)
Good Morning lovely year 4s! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and enjoyed spending time with your family. I enjoyed reading my book in the garden and eating some delicious food!
I'm sure you know what's coming next, it's Monday so it's spelling test time. In your spelling book it is a test on your week 34 words or you can do one of the spelling quizzes that's set as a 2Do on Purple Mash. Then complete the work set out in the timetable below this message. This week's maths focusses on money and we're moving on to something slightly different in English! If you want to carry on listening to Kid Normal, the link is in the time table and all the sheets you'll need for your work will be below this message.
Have a great day!
Phenomenal Friday (19/6/20)
Guten Morgen! Can you believe the rain yesterday? We've got a few new paddling pools in the garden and some pigeons were using the playground as their own personal spa! Hopefully the weekend will bring us some sunshine, if not, it's definitely an excuse for a film day inside. But before we get to the weekend we've got a day of learning ahead of us.
Start your day off by completing the Purple Mash times table check which has been set as a 2Do and then do 10/15 mins of ttrockstars before getting on with the work set in the timetable. Today's maths is a choice of the bitesize challenge, ttrockstars or catching up on missed lessons. Listen to chapter 5 of Kid Normal by clicking here. Then you have your reading lesson followed by some computing and PE.
I hope you've had a wonderful week and have a lovely weekend. Speak to you on Monday!
Thrilling Thursday (18/6/20)
Buenos dias! How are you all today? I hope you're doing well and looking after yourselves. Have a look below to see a little update on my sunflowers and cornflowers, they're getting ever so tall! Today we'll be attempting the history work that some of you may not have been able to complete last week, all about Howard Carter and his discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb. If you've already completed this, you could research a part of Ancient Egypt that interests you or carry on with your canopic jar project. Have a look at the timetable for all the activities and don't forget to listen to chapter 4 of Kid Normal on Audible for snack time.
Have a wonderful day!
Wild Wednesday (17/6/20)
Bom dia! The weather has been a bit wild recently hasn't it! Technical issues are continuing to be a pain in school at the moment as today we couldn't access the maths videos and nothing could be downloaded off the class pages. I'm assuming these aren't issues at home as I've not had any emails from parents but if this is a problem please let me know so I can help where possible. Sound problems also meant we couldn't watch the live video with Onjali Q. Raúf but I saw a bit from the saved video and thought she spoke really well and shared some great information about her stories.
Today, start off with 5 studio sessions on ttrockstars (or more if you fancy it) then start on your work from the timetable. In maths you're ordering decimals, in English you're writing your newspaper article, in science you're finding out about climate change and finally PSHE is some more work in your refugee week booklet. If you are enjoying listening to Kid Normal, click here and listen to chapter 3 for your very own snack and story time.
Have a fantastic day!
Tantalising Tuesday (16/6/20)
Bonjour! I must say Year 4, I am very impressed with the canopic jars you have been making, you have been so creative and really worked hard on them. Have a look in the picture section under the learning links to see what your classmates have created. If you haven't had chance to make yours yet, don't worry there's still plenty of time.
Right, on to today. Start off your day with 3 lessons of IDL, then complete the work set for you in your time table. Click here to carry on listening to Kid Normal on Audible, we're on chapter 2 today. As an added treat, if you enjoyed Katherine Rundell's live chat on Facebook a few weeks ago, there is another one today by Onjali Q. Raúf, the author of The Boy at the Back of the Class, which some of you may have read as it was on my bookshelf. It is at 2pm on the At Home With Facebook page, please ask a parent or adult first before using Facebook.
I hope you have a wonderful day.
Mystical Monday (15/6/20)
Good Morning children! We're back! After a couple of days of technical difficulties we're back online. Don't worry if you weren't able to do anything at the end of last week, I've kept some of the activities the same so you all get chance to find out about Howard Carter. This week is slightly different though as it's Refugee Week which means we'll be doing a couple of different activities focussing on refugees.
Start off today with your spelling test, week 33 in your spelling book, or have a go at one of the spelling quizzes on Purple Mash. All of the words in your spelling book are underlined so I will let you pick your own word of the week that you should try and include in your writing. Then complete the activities in your timetable. All the sheets you need are below this message. Unfortunately we're unable to put up any more stories read by teachers in the school, but don't fret, we can still have story and snack time! Click here to go to the Audible version of Kid Normal (which is completely free to listen to and read by the authors) and we're going to listen to chapter 1 today.
Have a great day!
Thoughtful Thursday (11/6/20)
你好 (Ni hao)! I hope you had fun creating your own adaptable living things yesterday. Today, you're going to start planning your newspaper article about the events at the filling station in Danny Champion of the World and dividing by 100 to make decimals in maths. Below this message you will find a powerpoint for history about the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb and Howard Carter who found it. After you've read the information, you're going to write me a postcard on Purple Mash pretending to be Carter telling me all about your discovery. If you are looking for a new book to ready, 'Secrets of a Sun King' by Emma Caroll is all about Tutankhamun and the discovery of his tomb and I would highly recommend it. Finally, our assembly question is 'How important is routine?', I wonder if you've stuck to a routine whilst you're learning at home?
Wonderous Wednesday (10/6/20)
Góðan daginn (Gooden Dayun)! I wonder how you're getting on with your canopic jar art project? Some of our key worker children made theirs yesterday, check out what they did in our photo section of this page. Today start your day with 10 minutes of ttrockstars before moving on to your timetabled work. You'll be doing maths, English, science and PSHE today and there's quite a lot of sheets, audio, powerpoints etc. that you will need for your work so have a look under this message and you should find everything you need. Don't forget, if you have any problems or questions, email the school office and I will get back to you.
Have a great day!
Tremendous Tuesday (9/6/20)
Καλημέρα (Kalimera)! How is everyone today? I saw lots of people having a go at the Purple Mash spelling quizzes yesterday, some of the words are very tricky so well done to those of you having a go. To keep up with your spelling, do 3 lessons of IDL this morning before starting on your timetabled work. As well as maths and English, we're going to do some RE and some art and I'm excited because we're going to have a go at creating our own canopic jars! I've included a few different links on the timetable to give you some ideas on how to do this but you might come up with your own ideas. I'll give you a couple of weeks to do this as you may need some time for glue and paint to dry. Be creative and have fun. I can't wait to see what you make!
Magnificent Monday (8/6/20)
Bom dia! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and are ready for a new week of learning. Just like last week, there is a timetable below this message that has all the work on and I will put any extra sheets or resources you will need under the daily messages.
Start your day with your spelling test. In your spelling book it is week 32 so you're testing yourself on your own words or you can complete the spelling quiz on Purple Mash. Then look at the timetable and complete the work from there, today we're doing maths, English, music and French.
Keep up the hard work Year 4, you're doing a great job.
Fantastic Friday (5/6/20)
Buongiorno! I must start today off with an apology. On the timetable for yesterday's topic lesson, the link sent you to the PSHE video instead of the video about Ancient Egyptian tombs. Well done Owen for noticing and letting me know but sorry to those who had tried it before I changed it. If you want to watch it, it's correct on the timetable now. Ok, back to today... start off with the multiplication check set as a 2Do on Purple Mash as it's times table test day. Then do some ttrockstars before starting on your timetabled work for the day. The sheets for maths and English can be found below, the work for computing is set as a 2Do on Purple Mash and hopefully the weather will stay dry for you to get outside and do some P.E.
Enjoy your day and have a great weekend!
Thrilling Thursday (3/6/20)
Guten Morgen! There was great excitement in my house yesterday as the sunflower seeds I planted over half term have begun to sprout, I wonder how yours are getting on? I can't wait to watch them grow, you can have a look at the picture below to see the shoots. Today we're looking at finding fractions of quantities in maths and later on you're going to learn more about what happens to pharaohs once they've been mummified. As it's Thursday, we've got an assembly question which asks 'Why to people choose the jobs they do?' I wonder if you know what you want to do when you grow up? How did you make that decision? Why not ask a parent why they chose their job and see if their reason is the same as yours. All the information on today's work is in the time table and the maths sheets can be found below this message. Have a great day!
Wonderful Wednesday (3/6/20)
Buenas Dias! How exciting was yesterday! We got a special shout out from Katherine Rundell and she even answered some of your questions on her live video. We found out that she visited the Amazon to help her when she was writing The Explorer and even ate a tinned tarantula! If you missed it you can watch the video on Linghams Booksellers Facebook page, unfortunately I don't think the video has been put onto their website yet. Well to start today, I would like you to complete 5 to 10 minutes of ttrockstars (a special shout out to Connor who has been working super hard on his times tables and is now 5th on our class leader board, those at the top may need to keep practising to keep hold of their titles!). Then look at our time table for your work for the day including some marvellous maths, exciting English, superb science and perceptive PSHE. In PSHE, we are looking at connecting with others to look after our mental health so why not ask your parents if you can phone a friend or a relative, or even write them a letter! Have a wonderful Wednesday.
Terrific Tuesday (2/6/20)
Bonjour! I hope you enjoyed your French lesson yesterday, it was so warm you could even pretend you were on holiday in France! Before you start on your timetabled work, have a go at doing 3 lessons of IDL or practise your spelling words for next week's test. As well as maths and English today, we will be doing some RE and beginning an art project that will hopefully be lots of fun. Like yesterday, you will find all your work in the timetable under this message and I will put the maths' question and answer sheets under the message too. There is an added excitement today as Katherine Rundell (the author of The Explorer) is doing a live video chat at 2pm. In order to access it, you will have a ask a parent nicely if they can find Linghams (the bookshop) on Facebook and you should find the video, or a link to the video, there. I've been told that the video will go on Linghams' website after the event so, if I can find it, I will post the link tomorrow. If you have any questions for her, email school before 12pm and I will get in touch with Linghams as they have said we can send in questions and have them answered by Katherine Rundell herself! I'm so looking forward to it! I hope you all have a wonderful day, I wonder who you can make smile today?
Marvellous Monday (1/6/20)
Good Morning lovely year 4s! I hope you've all had a wonderful half term and are ready for a new half term of learning. We're going to do things slightly differently this half term which will hopefully be easier for everyone. On a Monday, I will put up a timetable for the week which can be found underneath this message. I will carry on putting up daily messages but these will be shorter and all the links and work you need will be in the timetable. It will look like a lot of work but don't panic, just do the best you can and remember that the most important thing is to look after yourselves! If you are confused, just ask a parent to email school and I will get back to you to help you out.
So today you're going to start off with your spelling test, week 31 in your spelling books or the spelling quiz set as a 2Do on Purple Mash. Then complete the lessons on the timetable which include maths, English, music and French. The maths sheets that you need are also below this message.
I've also created a little video for you about mummifying a tomato which is below this message as well. If you weren't able to have a go yourself, you can see what I did and at the end of term we will see what's happened!
I hope all this makes sense. I can't wait to see what you get up to this week. Have a marvellous Monday!
Fantastic Friday (22/5/20)
Guten Morgen! I hope you all managed to do something kind for someone yesterday, if not don't worry, you're not limited to one day so try to do something kind for someone today or this weekend.
First things first, times table test! Log on to Purple Mash and complete the times table check, it's set as a 2Do to help you find it more easily:
Maths:
We're carrying on with equivalent fractions today so click here to watch the video. We're on Summer Term - Week 5 (w/c 18th May), Lesson 3 and you will find the activities below along with the answers.
English:
It's reading lesson day today so log on to Bug Club, read a full book and answer all the questions. I wonder who you could share a story with this weekend?
Computing:
Carrying on with our coding, we're going to have a go at using the collision detect command. I've set a 2Do called 'Guard the Castle' where you will need to get the knight to move in front of the castle, patrolling between two pillars. Don't forget, if you get stuck, click the hint button on the instructions and it will help you out. Last week, a few people had issues saving the last challenge. Hopefully that won't happen again but if it does, don't worry.
P.E.:
Time for another Friday P.E. Challenge! You've tried to hit a target, now see if you can be even more accurate and reduce the size of the target. You could try to get a tennis ball or ping pong ball into a cup or evn use a coin, or if you're feeling really confident, can you get a coin into the centre of a toilet roll?! I wonder what creative challenges you can come up with?
Next week is half term so I won't be setting any work for you to do on here. You will still have access to ttrockstars, Bug Club and Purple Mash so feel free to use them but I don't expect you to be working. Use this time to relax, go for a walk or a bike ride, paint or draw, read a book and watch some films. Most importantly, look after yourself, do something that makes you happy and try to make those around you happy too. Have a wonderful half term and I will speak to you all again on Monday 1st June.
Enjoy your break!
Thrilling Thursday (21/5/20)
Buenos dias! I am very impressed with the number of you who had a good go at the branching databases yesterday, it's a very tricky topic and you managed really well.
English:
We're going to find out just how Danny and his dad plan to poach 200 pheasants! Click here and listen up to 4:39. Did you guess correctly? Or do you think your idea was better? I think it's a very creative idea indeed, I certainly would never have thought about it. For today's work, I would like you to use your knowledge of coordinating conjunctions from Monday and write at least 5 sentences about Danny's plan using coordinating conjunctions. For example: Danny wanted to catch 200 pheasants so they would need 200 raisins. Don't forget, a coordinating conjunction links two separate sentences together so, in the sentence Danny and his dad wanted to go poaching, 'and' is not a coordinating conjunction as it is not linking two sentences together. Don't forget beautiful joined handwriting!
Maths:
Our maths lesson for today is on equivalent fractions, I wonder if you can remember what equivalent means? Click here to get to the website then you are watching the video in Summer Term - Week 5 (w/c 18th May) Lesson 2. The worksheets and answers can be found below.
History:
So last week we found out about some significant rulers in Ancient Egypt and you created some wonderful fact files (if you haven't finished your Purple Mash fact file, make sure you finish it today). Most of you found out that when the Pharaohs died they were mummified to preserve their body so that they could have a good after life. It's a little bit gruesome but very interesting! Click here to watch a video about Ancient Egyptian mummification and then I would like you to write a set of instructions on how to mummify a body. We don't mummify people nowadays but we can mummify tomatoes (ish)! So if you want an extra challenge, and your parents don't mind, you could have a go at mummifying a tomato, it could be a little activity for half term next week. All you need is a tomato, some salt and some bicarbonate soda. Click here for a video on how to mummify a tomato, you can always watch part 2 of the video to see what happens to the tomato after 40 days. I may eve have a go myself!
Assembly:
It's assembly time again but this time it will be a little bit different. As it's Mental Health Awareness week, we're going to carry on looking at mental health like we did in PSHE. The theme of the week is kindness so I have a lovely video for you to watch about how giving to others can help look after our own mental health and the mental health of others, so click here to see one example of giving to others. Then I would like you to put this into action and I want you to do something kind for someone. It might be making a card or writing a letter to a friend or relative, it might be loading the dishwasher or helping your parents around the house, it might even be sharing or giving a toy to a sibling!
Happy giving! And remember to look after your mental health always, not just for this week.

Peripatetic Music Lessons from September 2020

Your family should have received an email today (30.6.20) letting them know about the instrumental lessons that are available for you from September. Please read the information carefully and if you are interested in learning a brass, woodwind, string instrument or the keyboard then follow the instructions in the email and contact Edsential by the end of the week if possible so that it gives Edsential time to organise a Taster session if you require it and also to timetable the lessons for next term.
If you have been learning the recorder, guitar or are  in the School Band with Mrs Mitchell then this will continue with her as normal.

P.S Parents, don't worry about the maths, you're doing a great job!
THANK YOU!
Owen created a working Shaduf as part of his work on the River Nile. I wonder if you can find out what it was used for?
Wow wow wow children (and parents)!! I am so impressed with this video. You have all thought carefully about the question and expressed your opinions clearly. I am so proud of you all.
Wonderous Wednesday (20/5/20)
Bom dia! How is everyone today? I hope you enjoyed some relaxing mindfulness time yesterday and are ready and raring to go this Wednesday morning.
Maths:
We're going to start off our maths lesson today with 5 studio sessions on ttrockstars to see if you can beat your current rock star status! Then click here for your White Rose Maths Lesson on recognising tenths and hundreds. We are on Summer Term - Week 5 (w/c 18th May), Lesson 1, so there is no need to do any minimising. You can find the question and answer sheets below.
English:
We're going to skip ahead again in Danny Champion of the World to ch. 10. Since yesterday (ch.7) Danny has discovered his dad in Mr Hazel's wood in a trap made to catch poachers. Despite some keepers with guns, Danny managed to rescue his dad, who had broken his ankle, and got him back to the car. His dad's ankle has been put in plaster and life has begun to get back to normal(ish). Click here for the next instalment and listen from 5:10 to 11:02. You can listen to the rest of the chapter but this is the important part for todays lesson. Danny's dad wants to poach a couple of hundred pheasants to stop the Great Shooting Party but how? I would like you to come up with a cunning plan or two to help Danny's dad accomplish his plan. Discuss them with someone at home or ring a friend to see what they think, then bullet point them in your notebook. I wonder what creative solutions you will come up with?
Science:
Now today's science lesson might be a bit tricky to do from a distance but we're going to give it a go, try your best and see what you can do! We're looking at branching databases or classification keys, these are ways to group different living things by asking questions. For a brief introduction to them click here. Then have a look at the power point below for a more in depth explanation and example and there is a sheet underneath that that you can have a go at either in your head, in your notebook or on the sheet itself. Finally, I would like you to have a go at creating your own branching database to sort 4 living things, a lion, a giraffe, a rhino and a snake. You can do this on paper or you can use 2Question on Purple Mash which I have set as a 2Do. If you're going to use Purple Mash, I would recommend watching the video tutorial first, so open the 2Question app and in the top right hand corner there is a green play button in a black square next to the red exit arrow. Click the green play button and this will load a series of videos to help you create your own branching database using Purple Mash. I know this is tricky so if you're really stuck, just have a think of some questions that might separate your living things for example does it have legs? does it have fur? If you're feeling quite confident you could have a go at creating a branching database for 6 living things of your choice and either create this on paper or Purple Mash. Embrace the challenge and see what you can achieve!
Keep up the hard work Year 4, you're doing a great job.
Terrific Tuesday (19/5/20)
Bonjour! I hope you all had a good day yesterday and enjoyed having a go at some music. Apologies to those of you who had problems getting on to the French yesterday, I accidentally put the wrong link in so if you couldn't get on sorry!
Today, I'd like you to start off with three lessons on IDL or if you can't get on IDL, practise your spellings for next weeks spelling test.
English:
We're carrying on with Danny Champion of the World today and I've heard from lots of you that you're really enjoying this book so I'm really glad about that! We're going to skip ahead today to chapter 7. Don't worry if you haven't had chance to listen to chapter 6, you can always go back and listen to it just use the links for our snack and story time. Click here to listen to chapter 7 'The Baby Austin'. Once you've listened to chapter 7, I would like you to summarise the key events of the chapter, remember a summary just focusses on the important things that happen. In your book, I would like you to bullet point these main events and then think how Danny would be feeling and note these down next to each bullet point. It's quite a tense chapter so brace yourselves!
Maths:
Click here for today's White Rose Maths lesson on finding the area by counting squares. You will need to minimise week 5 to find Summer Term - Week 4 (w/c 11th May) and click on the video for lesson 4. You will find the questions and answers below this message like normal.
RE:
We're moving on from Sikhism today to look at Christianity, in particular the holy book Christians use, The Bible. In your notebook, I would like you to bullet point all the things you already know about the Bible and then I would like you to write down 3 questions of things that you would like to find out about the Bible. Now I would like you to click here to watch a video to find out what the Bible is, if your question is answered in the video, you could write down the answer next to your question! We'll be looking at the Bible in more detail so don't worry if your question hasn't been answered straight away, it might be something we learn later on.
PSHE:
Now I know we don't normally have this much work on a Tuesday but this week it is Mental Health week so I thought it would be a good time to do some PSHE about our feelings and emotions and remind ourselves of ways to keep ourselves mentally healthy. Click here to watch a video to find out what happens to our brain when we feel different emotions. I wonder if you can remember some ways we can keep ourselves mentally healthy? Exercise, healthy food, plenty of sleep and talking about how we're feeling are all good places to start, we can even do some mindfulness. I wonder if you can remember how we do our square breathing? Why not have a practise now breathing in for 5, holding for 5, out for 5 holding for 5, you could even listen to some nice relaxing music whilst you do it.
I hope you have a wonderful day and look after yourselves and your grown ups!
Marvellous Monday (18/5/20)
Good Morning Year 4! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Firstly, I would like to say a HUGE thank you to the children (and parents) who took part in creating a video for me and the rest of the staff at Thingwall. We all loved it and it put a huge smile on my face, it was so lovely to see all your fabulous faces and it looked like you had great fun. I have put the video in are gallery in the other column so you can have another look. Second of all, our music video is complete! See for yourselves:
Well done to all the children who took part, you all did really well.
Ok now let's get back to work. It's Monday so of course we're starting our day with our spelling test on our week 30 spellings and this weeks word of the week is going to be library. It might be quite a tricky one to get in to your writing but why not give it a go.
Maths:
Our White Rose Maths lesson is on calculating the perimeter of rectilinear shapes. Click here, minimise Summer Term Week 5 to find Summer Term - Week 4 (w/c 11th May) and watch the video for lesson 3. The question and answer sheets can be found below.
English:
As I mentioned a while ago, we're going to look at coordinating conjunctions today. This is something we've already done in class but I thought it would be a helpful refresher for you. Click here to get to you BBC Bitesize lesson. There are 2 videos to watch and 3 activities to have a go at, there may even be a chance to use the word of the week!
French:
We're going to revise sports again today, I wonder how many you can remember from last week? Click here and complete the full tutorial, why not try a different game today!
Music:
We're going to have another go at some music lessons today so pick from guitar, recorder or percussion from the lessons below and have a go at making some music. On the recorder lesson, the vocal warm up is a chant you will all recognise and you may even recognise a familiar face when practising the note G!
Have a great day!
Fabulous Friday (15/5/20)
Bonjour! Today is the last day you're going to hear me go on about the World in Union song. If you want to feature in our class choir, you need to send me your video (via the school office) by the end of today. Remember it doesn't have to be long and it would be lovely to see as many of your wonderful smiling faces together (virtually) as possible.
Ok... back to Friday and you can probably guess what I'm going to say. Yes that's right, times table test! I would like you to complete your times table check on Purple Mash and the head over to ttrockstars and complete 10-15 minutes of times table practice. I wonder if you can improve your rock star status?
English:
It's reading lesson day today so I would like you to read at least 1 book on Bug Club and answer all the questions that go with it. Some of you have been reading on Bug Club on a regular basis which is wonderful to see and those of you who are reading physical books too, well done!
Maths:
We're going back to look at perimeter today for our maths lesson. Click here to get to the right page and we are on Summer Term - Week 4 (w/c 11th May), Lesson 2. Like yesterday, the question and answer sheets are below this message. If you have any problems accessing them, please let me know.
Computing:
We're going to make coding a little more tricky today and create our very our snail race! I've set it as a 2Do for you on Purple Mash. Remember to watch the video instructions carefully and if you're not sure, click the hint button at the bottom left of the instruction block and it will give you some help. Don't forget to click next challenge and then see if you can create your own snail race at the end!
Purple Mash have also launched a competition to create a game on 2DIY. This is an option extra if you want to, you do not have to create one. You can find out all the information and how to take part by clicking this link, you may even be in with a chance to win a £50 Amazon Voucher!
PE:
Time for another Friday PE challenge! Last time we looked at our hitting a ball with a bat our own hand to help our hand eye coordination. Today we're going to work on our throwing accuracy. You will need to make a target of some sort, this could be on paper using pencil or on the floor/wall/fence using chalk (ask your parents first before you do this, and do it on an outside wall, please don't start decorating your house). Then try to throw a ball or cuddly toy at the target and see if you can hit the centre. Can you move the target and still get the centre? What about if you move further away? Good Luck!
Have a lovely weekend and I'll speak to you all on Monday.
Thoughtful Thursday (14/5/20)
Good Morning lovely year 4s! I have been seeing some wonderful work from you this week so keep it up, you're working so hard!
Maths:
Today's maths lesson looks at solving problems using multiplication and division. Click here and we are looking at Summer Term - Week 4 (w/c 11th May) Lesson 1 so there is no minimising required. You will notice that there is only a video available on the website but fear not, the worksheet you need is below this message. You can either print it or write out the answers into your booklet, exactly like you've been doing. I've also included the answer sheet underneath so you can mark your own work, but no cheating!
English:
We're going to listen to chapter 5 of Danny Champion of the World today, so click here and hear all about how Danny's dad catches pheasants. Today I would like you to choose one of these methods and write a set of instructions for how to catch a pheasant. I would like you to include at least 6 steps, include sequencing words such as first, next, finally, and illustrate your instructions so that it's clear what to do. I wonder which method you will choose?
History:
Last week, we looked at why the River Nile is important and you may have noticed that there is a 2Do on Purple Mash for this. If you have already done a paper copy, there is no need to do another one, but if you haven't had chance to start it, you could always use the template that's there. Today we're moving on to look at the rulers of Ancient Egypt who were called Pharaohs. Below this message (and the maths sheets) you will find some information about the Pharaoh's of Ancient Egypt which I would like you to read. I would then like you to choose one Pharaoh to do some research on either using Kiddle or a book you may have at home. If you would like to look more at Tutankhamun you can click here for the BBC Bitesize page about him. You are going to write a profile about the Pharaoh you choose. On Purple Mash there are templates for Cleopatra, Hatshepsut and Tutankhamun if you would like to choose them, you could even edit them to be about a different Pharaoh or you could do your profile on paper. Choose just one, I do not expect you to do all three Pharaohs on Purple Mash. I wonder what new information you will learn?
Assembly:
Today's question is 'Who owns outer space?'. Click here for the virtual assembly video and look below this message, the maths sheets and the Pharaohs power point for the picture and extra information. Why not ring a friend and see what they think?
There's lots coming up below so I hope I've not caused too much confusion! Have a great Thursday.
Wicked Wednesday (13/5/20)
Привет (preevieyet)! How are you all today? We're half way through the week already, can you believe that, time flies when you're having fun!
English:
Yesterday, you heard all about Danny's dad's poaching past and how people used to poach so that they had something to eat but now it's done for fun. You should have your for and against bullet points from yesterday too, they're going to help you with today's task. If you need to refresh you memory, click here to listen to chapter 4 again. I would like you to choose the side that you agree with most, do you think it's ok to poach animals for food or not? If you think it's ok to poach, you're going to write a letter to Danny to convince him it's ok to poach. If you don't think it's ok to poach, you're going to write a letter to Danny's dad (William) to convince him to stop. You'll need to set your work out in letter format with paragraphs and think carefully about your arguments, what will make him listen and believe you? Don't forget beautiful joined hand writing.
Maths:
I would like you to start your maths lesson off by either completing a paper times table Rockstar time challenge if you have one or playing ttrockstars for 10/15 minutes. Then, you're going to click here for your White Rose Maths lesson on dividing a 3-digit number by a 1-digit number. Remember, you will need to minimise Summer Term - week 4 to find Summer Term - Week 3 (w/c 4th May) and watch the video and complete the activities for lesson 4.
Science:
Today we're looking at classifying animals, putting them in groups with other animals that have similar features. Watch this video to find out the characteristics of each of the 5 main groups of vertebrates. I wonder if you can work out how a dolphin would be classified? Then, I would like you to draw and label your own diagrams for each of the 5 groups like in the video. For an example, look below. I wonder how many labels you can do without looking at the video?
Don't forget to get some fresh air and exercise today and you can see what living things are in your local area at the same time. Have a great day!
Top-notch Tuesday (12/5/20)
Καλημέρα (Kalimera)! I wonder if you can remember what language that comes from? I hope you enjoyed learning some new French words yesterday too.
Maths:
We're getting straight to it today so click this link for our White Rose Maths lesson on dividing 2-digit numbers by 1-digit numbers. You will need to minimise Summer Term - Week 4 to find Summer Term - Week 3 (w/c 4th May) and watch the video and complete the activities for lesson 3. Some of you may be ahead of us and have realised that in Summer Term - Week 4 you need a subscription to access the worksheets. As a school, we have a subscription but to avoid confusion I won't post them here until we are up to that lesson so if you would like the sheets please send me an email vis the school office and I will send them to you.
English:
We're carrying on with Danny Champion of the World today. I would like you to listen to Chapter 4 'My Father's Deepest Darkest Secret' by clicking here. In this chapter Danny's dad explains what poaching is and why it's done. In your book or on a piece of paper I would like you to bullet point reasons for and against poaching. Use the text to start with but then you may want to speak to your parents or other people in your family to see what they think or even use Kiddle to do some more research into poaching to add your own thoughts as to why people should or shouldn't poach wildlife.
RE:
Today we are concluding our Sikhism topic. Below, you will find some worksheets based on sharing and the practices of Sikhs sharing food and equality at the Gudwara. If you can print off the sheets, great, if not just write your answers into your work book (please give it a date and a title though so you know what work it is). There is a link to a video on the sheets that you will need to copy and paste into your browser and this will give you more information about equality and sharing at the Gudwara. You can also use all the information you already know about Sikhism to help you answer the questions.
Have a good Tuesday!
(P.S. Don't forget World in Union songs!!)
Magnificent Monday (11/5/20)
Buongiorno! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and enjoyed celebrating VE Day with your family. If you watched any of the VE Day celebrations on the TV, you may have heard them use a familiar song, that's right the World in Union that we have been singing. There a few children who have not sent me any singing yet so I'm giving you until this Friday (15th May) to email your clips to the office. Remember it doesn't have to be the whole song, it can be a short clip (particularly towards the end of the song would be great). Thank you again to all those who have sent me something already, it sounds great and I can't wait for you all to see what we've created.
Back to Monday... which of course means spelling test time. We are on week 29 in your spelling book so get an adult to test you on our words ending in -ious. Our word of the week this week is various, I wonder how you could use it this week?
English:
In our last grammar lesson, we looked at apostrophes for contraction when we join two words together. Today, we are going to look at using apostrophes for possession to show when something belongs to someone. Click here to go to the BBC Bitesize lesson, watch the video, read the information and have a go at activity 1. If you want a challenge, you can have a go at activities 2 and 3.
Maths:
For today's White Rose Maths lesson we are looking at multiplying 3-digit numbers by 1-digit numbers. Click this link, then click Summer Term - Week 3 (w/c 4th May) and select lesson 2. Watch the video and have a go at the activities.
French:
Today we're moving on to sport. Click this link, then click Full Tutorial and have a go at the activities and a game at the end. Have a go at repeating the words out loud but be careful, they're not always written how they are said.
Music:
If you've not sent me your World in Union song then now's your chance! For those who have, we're going to try something a little different. Ms Laird and the people she works with have put together music lessons for you to have a go at at home, they include a bit of singing and a bit of musical instrument playing so if you have a guitar or a recorder at home you can have an instrument lesson at home. If you don't have a guitar or a recorder, I've also included a drum/percussion lesson which can be done with everyday objects you might find in your home so you can still take part in a music lesson. Each lesson can be found below. This is a new resource so please let me know what you think, also if you play any other instrument at home but haven't been having lessons recently let me know and I can send you lessons for other instruments.
Phew! That felt like a lot of information! Keep up the hard work year 4, you're doing a great job. I'm missing you all but I am so proud of how well you're doing.
Speak to you tomorrow.
Thrilling Thursday (7/5/20)
Guten Morgen! How are we all doing this morning? Yesterday I started putting together our virtual choir and it sounds wonderful! If you haven't already filmed yourself singing the World in Union song and sent it to me via the school office then please do so, it would be lovely to have as many of year 4 as possible to join together to sing. If you have already sent it then THANK YOU!
Maths:
We're starting the day with maths today so click here for todays lesson on multiplying 2-digit numbers by 1-digit numbers. We are on Summer Term - Week 3 (w/c 4th May), Lesson 1. From now on, these lessons will be recapping things we have already done and focussing on things that we think will be important for you once you begin year 5 so if things look familiar, good they should! These lessons also link with the daily BBC Bitesize lessons so if you want some extra maths then you can have a look at those videos too. However we are 3 days behind so check the date on the daily lesson so you don't confuse yourself or your parent!
English:
As I said yesterday, you are going to be writing your diary entry today based on Danny Champion of the World chapter 3 (if you didn't get chance to listen yesterday click here and listen from 4:51 to 7:03). I would like you to imagine that you are Danny and you are writing a diary entry to tell me about the kite you made yesterday with your father. Think about what happened and how it made Danny feel. Try to include fantastic adjectives, fronted adverbials and even a three action sentence, don't forget beautiful joined handwriting!
History:
Last week you discovered a little bit more about Ancient Egypt, well today we're going to focus on the River Nile. This river was hugely important during the Ancient Egyptian period because Egypt is a hot, dry country so the water was needed for drinking, bathing and growing crops. Below you will find a powerpoint about the importance of the River Nile. Have a read through it and then I would like you to create a fact file on the River Nile, explaining what it was used for and why it was so important. You can decorate your fact file with images and illustrations to demonstrate what you have written about or just to make it look nice. I'm looking forward to seeing what you get up to.
Assembly:
There is a special assembly today all about VE day. What is VE day? I hear you ask, well that's today's assembly question and to answer it you can click this link to watch a video and read some information about VE day which we will celebrate tomorrow. Perhaps you could create a drawing of a soldier to put in your window like the video suggests and listen to the Queen's speech tomorrow followed by a nationwide sing-a-long, I certainly will be.
Because of VE day, tomorrow is a bank holiday so I won't be setting any work for you to complete but if you're looking for something to do, I've posted a few recipes kindly put together by Miss Arden that you could have a go at. Have a lovely long Bank Holiday weekend and I will speak to you all again on Monday!
Wonderful Wednesday (6/5/20)
Bom dia! I hope you are all well and having a good week so far. I wonder if you've taught your parent anything new yet?
English:
Start your English lesson today by doing 3 lessons of IDL to keep up with our spelling practice. Now I would like you to listen to chapter 3 of Danny Champion of the World from 4:51 to 7:03 where we are told about Danny and his dad making and flying a kite. I would like you to bullet notes from this section of the story as tomorrow we're going to be writing a diary entry about the day from Danny's point of view. Pick out the important things that happen and try to include how Danny might be feeling at different stages.
Maths:
Start your maths lesson today by having a go at some ttrockstars for 5-10 minutes, if you've still got a paper copy of a timed session great, if not log yourself on and play a couple studio or garage games. Then it's time for your White Rose maths lesson all about ordering money. Minimise Summer Term - Week 3, click on Summer Term - Week 2 (w/c 27 April) and watch the Lesson 4 video.
Science:
We're carrying on looking at living things, I wonder if you can remember the 7 life processes, see if you can say them out loud now? If you can't, scroll down to last week and remind yourself of them. Today you're going to go living things hunting! You can either do this from the comfort of your own home, in your garden or on your daily walk. I would like you to find 5 different living things and in your book or on a piece of paper, draw the living thing, name it, say where you found it and describe what type of habitat it lives in. For example, if I found a woodlouse under a log I would say I found it under a log and it's habitat was dark and damp. Look below to see one way you could set it out. Don't forget plants are living too! Hint: If you're struggling to find five, have a look at Mrs Smith's Creatures section of the VLE, I'm sure there's at least 3 living things you could observe there!
Have a great day and enjoy exploring!
Terrific Tuesday (5/5/20)
Good Morning! I have received some wonderful videos of you singing so keep them coming in and we can all sing together virtually, you could even do it instead of Tuesday morning choral assembly!
Maths:
You've guessed it, it's time for our White Rose Maths lesson. Follow this link, minimise Summer Term - Week 3 and click Summer Term - Week 2 (w/c 27 April) then find lesson 3 on pounds and pence. During this week, you could look at how much things cost and how decimals are used in money!
English:
We're going to start doing some work on Danny Champion of the World this week. If you've not been listening to the daily story, don't panic, I will include the link each day to the part you need so you won't be behind. These audio clips can also be downloaded so you can listen to them even if the internet is not working brilliantly. Click here to listen to chapter 1 which is up until 7:03. In your notebooks, I would like you to create a spider diagram and note down everything we know about Danny so far. You can always listen to the text more than once to help you out.
RE:
We're carrying on with Sikhism today for RE so click here to learn all about Vaisakhi, a Sikh Spring festival!
Keep up the hard work year 4, you're doing a great job!
Marvellous Monday (4/5/20)
Bonjour! and Happy Star Wars Day, it's May the 4th so you can say "May the 4th be with you" because 4th sounds like force! Anyway... let's get down to business, it's spelling test time. Today is our week 28 test so you're testing yourself on your own words and our word of the week is thought so see if you can use it in your writing this week.
English:
For our spelling and grammar lesson this week, I would like you to follow this link to look at contractions. We have looked at these in class before so this is a recap to help you remember when to use apostrophes correctly. There is some information to read, two videos to watch and 3 activities to have a go at. If you'd like an extra challenge there is activity 4 to have a go at.
Break Time: Find the link to today's Danny Champion of the World episode below this message.
Maths:
Click here for todays maths lesson on halves and quarters. Once on the page you will need to minimise Summer Term - Week 3 to find Summer Term - Week 2 (w/c 27 April) and we are on lesson 2. Watch the video and have a go at the activities either in your book or on the sheet if you want to print it.
Music:
I've had an idea! I'm not sure if it's going to work but we're going to have a go. Over the last two weeks you have been learning the song 'World in Union', today I would like you to have a go at singing it and getting a parent to film it, or even just part of it then send it to me in an email (send an email to the school office and it will get to me). My plan is that the whole class will send me at least some part of the song then I will put it together and we will have a virtual choir! That's the plan anyway so we'll see, watch this space...
French:
We have been looking at hobbies for the last couple of weeks so today I would like you to write down 3 things that you do, in French, and draw a picture to illustrate that activity. If you can't quite remember the words click here and you can have a look at the lesson again to help you.
On Friday, I set you a PE challenge (the weather wasn't as bad as I thought it would be!) and I said I might have a video to show you of me having a go, well have a look below and you will find exactly that with a few surprise guests thrown in!
Let's have a wonderful start to the week.
Finish off Friday (1/5/20)
Καλημέρα (Kalimera)! Happy 1st of May! My mum used to say to me you should say 'white rabbits' as soon as you wake up on the first day of the month and it would bring you luck... I think that might just be superstition though. A new language for you today as well, I don't think we've used it in school, it's Greek for good morning and is said 'kalimera', to say good afternoon it's 'kalispera'.
Maths:
You know what's coming, it is Friday after all! Times Table Test!! Log yourself into Purple Mash and complete the multiplication check. Then I would like you to do at least 15 minutes on ttrockstars, I don't mind which game you play but I wonder whether you can improve your rock status? Then we're going to have a go at catching up with White Rose Maths so click here to complete Summer Term- Week 2 (w/c 27 April) Lesson 1 on Rounding Decimals. We will catch up eventually but in the meantime it might get a bit confusing so I will try to be as clear as I can with my instructions but if you're not sure just do the next video.
Break time: The final episode of Danny Champion of the World this week!
English:
First, I'd like you to do 3 lessons on IDL or practise your spellings for Monday if you're unable to use a computer or device. Then, as it's Finish Off Friday, I'm going to give you this time to finish off any work you've not had chance to do this week. You could use this time to complete your Guru Nanak comic or your poem/song/poster of the 7 life processes for science. If you think you've finished everything then use this time to complete some of the 2Dos on Purple Mash, read a book, do some more ttrockstars, Bug Club etc.
Computing:
Well done to those children who completed their first coding task on Purple Mash, it was great to see your fishy creations. For today's coding challenge, I have set you 'Bubble'. The challenge is to get your bubbles to move then add the 'when clicked' command to make to bubble disappear and add a sound so it looks like the bubbles pop when they're clicked. I can't wait to see what you create.
PE:
It wouldn't be Friday without PE. Unfortunately the weather doesn't look too great so you might have to do indoor PE. Last week we looked at throwing and catching so today, instead of catching, I want you to throw a ball or cuddly toy and, when it falls, bat it back up again. See how many you can do! You could use your hand or a tennis, cricket, or badminton bat. I might even have a go myself and see how many I can do, there may even be a video as proof!
Have a lovely weekend year 4!!
Thoughtful Thursday (30/4/20)
Góðan daginn (gooden dayun)! I hope you enjoyed our special visitor yesterday and enjoyed creating comic strips, poems, posters and songs for yesterday's learning.
English:
It's a reading lesson day today so I would like you to read a book on Bug Club and answer all the questions or do a reading comprehension from your paper pack. Please make sure you are answering the questions sensibly on Bug Club as I do mark these so check your feedback as well.
Break Time: I wonder what will happen next in Danny Champion of the World?
Maths:
Click here for today's maths lesson on ordering decimals. Remember we are on Summer Term - Week 1 (w/c 20 April). Watch the video and have a go at the activities. Keep up the hard work!
Topic:
For our history lesson (and a little bit of geography), we're going to be looking at Ancient Egypt. First, I would like you to see if you can find Egypt on a map, globe, google maps or google earth. What do you think the weather is like there? Can you find the River Nile on the map? Why do you think the River Nile would have been extremely important during the Ancient Egyptian period?
Now, follow this link to find out more about Ancient Egypt. Watch the clip, read the information and you could even have a go at creating a pyramid treasure tomb or mummy cartonnage pencil case using the resources provided. I wonder if any of your questions have been answered yet?
Assembly:
It's time for our assembly! This week's question is 'Are video games the next best thing to real life?'. I thought this was quite a tricky question to answer so if you're stuck for ideas you can click here to watch a video discussing this question (it's the top video). Like last week, I have included our picture and question below. Get in touch with you friends and family and see what they think!
Have a lovely Thursday!

Wonderful Wednesday (29/4/20)
你好 (Ni hao)! I wonder if you have manged to guess what language I have been using each day to say good morning? I have a special visitor to help me out today so keep reading to find out who it is going to be!
Maths:
Follow this link to our White Rose Maths lesson for today all about comparing decimals. We're on Summer Term- Week 1 (w/c 20 April) Lesson 3. I understand that some of you have had difficulty with this and the website has been having some issues but from what I can tell you've all used your initiative to come up with a solution so well done! If you do have any problems, let me know, or if the website isn't working, play some maths games on Purple Mash and do some ttrockstars as an alternative maths lesson for the day it's not working.
Break time: Time for the next exciting instalment of Danny Champion of the World.
English:
Yesterday, you found out all about Guru Nanak and the start of the Sikh religion. If you didn't get chance to look at it yesterday click here for the information about him. 'This is RE not English!' I hear you cry. Well fear not, it is both! I would like you to create a comic strip showing the life of Guru Nanak using pictures and words. Use the information from yesterday and you could always use Kiddle to do some more research if you wanted to expand your knowledge. Try to aim for about 6 boxes to explain his life, write in full sentences to explain what's going on in your picture and you could even use speech bubbles as well. I can't wait to see what you create.
Science:
We're carrying on with our living things topic today and I have a message from a special guest to introduce today's lesson.
Have you guessed what the 7 life processes might be? Watch this video to find out if you were right! This video uses the pneumonic MRS NERG to help you remember the 7 living processes along with a rap. Below I've attached a document that tells you what each living process means along with a poem and I would like you to have a go at creating a poster, poem or rap/song to help you remember what the 7 living processes are. Be as creative as you like and you may need more than just today to complete it, you could always set it as a weekend challenge for yourself. I can't wait to see the results.
Happy creating!
Magical Monday (27/4/20)
Guten Morgen! I hope you all have a wonderful weekend, are well rested and ready for the start of a brand new week.
To start your day off, get a grown up to test you on your week 27 spellings (or you could test yourself). Then you will need to write your own words in to week 28 for next weeks test. Don't forget, start with the words you got wrong, then put in the words that are underlined and finally include the words you found the trickiest to learn or think you will use the most frequently. This weeks word of the week is although so see if you can use it in your writing this week.
Maths:
Today we start Summer Term- Week 1 (w/c 20 April) on White Rose Maths as we are a week behind. Click here to look for today's lesson on making a whole using fractions and decimals, watch the video and have a go at the activities on the sheet. Decimals is a tricky topic so well done for having a go, remember our growth mindset of taking on challenges and always trying our best.
Break time: Week 3's reading of Danny Champion of the World is below this message.
English:
We're going to have a go at some grammar today and we are looking at conjunctions to link sentences together and extend our writing. Watch and dance along to the Supermovers Video on conjunctions. We have already looked at coordinating conjunctions in class and in the video you will be introduced to some more conjunctions, some of which are subordinating conjunctions but we will look more at these next week. I would like you to write about your weekend and try to include a variety of conjunctions in your writing for example 'I sat outside to read my book because  it was sunny.' Don't forget beautiful joined handwriting and plenty of detail. Hint: although is an example of a subordinating conjunction.
Music:
As I said last week, have another listen to 'World in Union' on YouTube and have a go at singing along to it. I wonder how much you can do without looking at the words?
French:
We're going to carry on looking at hobbies so click here to get to your French lesson. Click on 'full tutorial' and it will give you 10 phrases to learn. Have a go at repeating the phrases out loud to help you remember them but be careful with your pronunciation as it's not always written how it's said. Work through the 4 activities and then it will take you to the games section. Choose a game to complete then have a go at the multiple choice test to see what you can remember and see if you can beat your score from last week.
I hope you have a wonderful day and I look forward to seeing what you get up to this week!
Terrific Tuesday (28/4/20)
Привет (Preeviyet)! What lovely weather we're having, I thought it was meant to rain yesterday so the sunshine was a lovely surprise. I hope you managed to get outside and enjoy the fresh air. I also want to say a huge THANK YOU to all those children (and parents) who helped put together the video based on our assembly question. It put a humongus smile on my face seeing you all and hearing you share your ideas. If you want to see your friends' ideas, have a look in the next column where I have posted the video. I am so proud of all of you for working hard and being so sensible and cheerful during this strange time.
English:
Today I would like you to write a book review for 'And Tango Makes Three'. Click here to listen to the story again to refresh your memory. Give a brief summary of what the book is about and then tell me what you thought of it. Did you enjoy it? Why/ why not? What was your favourite part? Who would you recommend this book to? Make sure you give reasons for your answers and you could even give it a star rating.
Break time: It's Danny Champion of the World time!
Maths:
Today's maths lesson is on writing fractions as decimals. Click here to go to the website, then click on Summer Term - Week 1 (w/c 20 April), watch the video and then have a go at the activities. Don't forget to mark your own work to find out how you're getting on!
RE:
I hope you enjoyed last weeks recap on Sikhism. Today we're going to carry on looking at Sikhism so follow this link to find out all about Guru Nanak. I wonder how much you can remember from your lesson with Mrs Evans?
Have a fabulous day!
Fun Friday (24/4/20)
Buongiorno! It's been so lovely to hear from more and more of you this week, I am missing all your wonderful smiles so I'm glad I can still see them in your photos. Check out the pictures in the next column to see all the fantastic things your friends have been up to, it's bound to put a smile on your face.
It's Friday so time for your times table test! Log in to Purple Mash to complete the times table check, I've set it as a 2Do to help you find it more easily.
English:
A reading lesson today so I would like you to complete a reading comprehension from your paper pack or read a book on Bug Club and answer all the questions. I do check your answers on there regularly so make sure you are answering the questions fully and sensibly. If you've not done any IDL this week and you have time, try to do 3 lessons of IDL today.
Break time: It's our final part of Danny Champion of the World for the week!
Maths:
Click here for this week's final lesson from White Rose on dividing by 100 to make decimals. We're a week behind as you can probably tell from the date on the White Rose page as I thought it was important to do the previous week so the lessons made more sense. However I know some children are up to date with their maths, if this is the case, there is no lesson today but a maths challenge. Feel free to have a go at this or take the time to do plenty of times table rockstars or any maths games on Purple Mash you haven't done yet.
Lunch time: Today in school we are going to have a teddy bears picnic outside for lunch. Why not join us by heading outside with a blanket and a teddy and enjoy your lunch al fresco. Don't forget the suncream!
Computing:
We are going to carry on with our coding so I have set you a challenge to make the fish move. You will find this in your 2Dos on Purple Mash called 'Fun with Fish'. This will give you step by step instructions to follow for those of you who found it tricky or missed our lesson on how to make objects move in 2Code. We will be building on these skills throughout this term, starting simple and getting more tricky so let's see what you can do!
Have a wonderful week and I challenge you to help around the house this weekend without your grown up asking! You could tidy your room, make your bed or even help to make your food. Be kind and have fun. Speak to you on Monday!
Thorough Thursday (23/4/20)
Bom dia! I hope you all had a lovely day yesterday. The weather has been so lovely it's been wonderful to get outside but, as it's getting warmer, it's important to make sure you're wearing sun cream so you can have fun in the sun!
Maths:
It's time to learn about hundredths on a place value grid so click here for Week 2 Lesson 4 of your maths work. Watch the video, have a go at the questions, mark your answers. I'm sure you're getting the hang of this by now!
Break time: It's Danny Champion of the World Time!
English:
I've had some wonderful pieces of writing about a trip to Central Park Zoo, I am so impressed and proud of how hard you are all working. It's time to do some grammar so click here for a lesson on pronouns. Watch the two videos then complete activity 1, activity 2 and 3 are extra challenges if you would like to have a go feel free. If you aren't able to use a computer today to watch the video, look in your pack for any incomplete spelling or grammar activities and have a go at them.
History:
Today we start our new topic on Ancient Egypt. In your green notebook, I would like you to bullet point anything you know about Ancient Egypt already and bullet point 3 questions of things you would like to find out. Hopefully these questions will be answered by the end of the Summer Term.
Assembly:
"Assembly?!" I hear you call. "But how is that possible at home?" Fear not, I have a plan!
You may not be able to join together with your friends but we have our Picture News resources that you can discuss with someone at home. You may want to talk to an adult or ring a friend and discuss the points with them, just like you would during assembly. The question for this week is 'Do you think people will travel less in the future?' as you can see in the picture below. I've also attached some extra information sheets to help you discuss your ideas and a newspaper that you can have a read through if you fancy it (you can write it in your reading record to say that you've read a newspaper too).
I hope you have a wonderful day, I'm sure you're going to have some really interesting discussions.
Wicked Wednesday (22/4/20)
Buenos dias! Rise and shine it's learning time!
I loved seeing your drawings of your family on Purple Mash yesterday. I will leave the 2Do open until Friday so keep them coming in.
English:
I hope you enjoyed listening to 'And Tango Makes Three'. I think it's a lovely book, particularly as I love the zoo! I would like you to imagine that you are one of the children in a family going to the Central Park Zoo. What can you see? Who are you with? What does it smell like? How did you feel when you got to the penguin enclosure and met Roy and Silo? I would like you to write about your day at the zoo. Answer all these questions and more in full sentences and paragraphs. Try to include lots of wonderful description and include your thoughts and feelings as well. Click here to listen to the story again to help imagine your trip to the zoo.
Break time: Time for instalment number 3 of this weeks Danny Champion of the World. I wonder what's going to happen next...
Maths:
Before starting your White Rose Maths, I would like you to have a go at one of the ttrockstars sheets from your paper pack. If you've finished all these, do 5 minutes of ttrockstars online or practise your 6 times table multiplication and division facts. Then click here for week 2 lesson 3 all about hundredths as decimals, watch the video and have a go at the activities.
P.E:
We're moving on from our dance unit and this half term we will be looking at rounders (kind of...). The first skill you will need to practise is throwing and catching. If you have a tennis ball, great! If not, use anthing soft and indestructible (like a small cuddly toy). Have a go at throwing it in the air and catching it. Once you've mastered that throw it, clap then catch it. See how many claps you can do in a row without dropping the ball?
Science:
Another new topic for today and we're looking at living things in science, a biology unit. So, to start off, I would like you to do a little scavenger hunt around your house. I would like you to find 2 things that are living, 2 things that used to be alive, and 2 things that have never been alive. You could get a grown up to take a photo of you with your objects and send it to me by emailing the school office. If you have time, you could also have a look out your window and count how many different living things you can see! A wonder what differences and similarities you notice between your living things.
Happy learning!
Tantalising Tuesday (21/4/20)
Bonjour! I hope you are all well and are starting to get back into the swing of things. It seems like lots of children threw themselves into home learning yesterday as the internet struggled to keep up! Hopefully these issues will be sorted for today but don't worry if you're struggling to get on to the things set just do what you can and don't forget you still have your paper packs to have a go at. I'm also aware that I have set quite a lot of work, this is to make sure that no one is bored as they've got nothing to do! If you're not getting through it all, don't panic, just do what you can and if you don't get chance to do something one day, you can always have a go another day. That's the beauty of home learning, you can go at your own pace.
Anyway, back to Tuesday...

Maths: Click here to do week 2, lesson 2 on White Rose which is on hundredths. Once you've watched the video, have a go at the activities either in your green book or on the sheet and then you or an adult can mark it using the answer sheet.
Break time: Time for your next instalment of Danny Champion of the World which you can find below this message.
English: Today we are going to start a new book! It's called 'And Tango Makes Three' by Peter Parnell and Justin Richardson and it's about some penguins living in Central Park Zoo in New York. Click here to listen to the story on YouTube. At the start of the story we see all the animal families in the zoo. I would like you to write in your green notebook and tell me all about your family. Who's in it? What do they look like? Who do you get on with most? What do you like to do with your family? If you haven't already, you could also draw me a picture of your family on Purple Mash (or draw one underneath your writing if you would like).
RE: It's been a while since you looked at your RE topic of Sikhism so click here to go to BBC Bitesize to refresh your memory on all you've learnt so far. Watch the video then read through the information and at the end there's even a quiz to see how much you remember. I wonder if you can remember the 5 Ks before you have a look at the information?
Have a lovely day and don't forget to keep reading and write it in your reading record!
Magnificent Monday (20/4/20)
Good Morning lovely Year 4. I hope you have all had a wonderful Easter Holiday and are ready and raring to go with our Summer Term learning!
Monday morning can mean only one thing, yes that's right SPELLING TEST! Wahooo!! Get a grown up to test you on your week 26 spellings. This weeks word of the week is therefore so see if you can use it in your writing at some point this week.
English:
In fact, you could use it almost immediately as, for English, I would like you to write about your Easter holidays. Tell me what you got up to, what your favourite thing was and whether you managed to complete any of my Easter challenges. Even if you don't think you did anything exciting, make your writing exciting by using interesting adjectives and giving plenty of detail. You could even say what you wish you had done. Try to include an expanded noun phrase (e.g. the delicious, rich chocolate egg), a fronted adverbial (e.g. During the Easter holidays, …) and a three action sentence (e.g. I jumped out of bed, opened the curtains and put on my favourite pair of bunny ears.). Don't forget about the punctuation!
Break time:
You can find this week's instalments of Danny Champion of the World below this message so you can recreate snack and story time at home!
Maths:
Today I would like you to complete Week 2, Lesson 1 on White Rose by clicking here. Todays lesson is on dividing by 10 to make a decimal. Either print off the questions or answer them in your green notebook, just make sure you write the date so I know where you're up to. If you have any problems, send an email to the school office and I wil be in touch to help you out the best I can.
Music:
It wouldn't be a Monday without music so click here to have a look at this song on Youtube . It's called the World in Union and, although it's quite an old song, I think the lyrics are still important today. Have a listen and then have a go at singing it yourself. We'll be practising this over the next couple of weeks so don't worry if you find it tricky to start with.
French:
We're going to start a new topic in French today all about our hobbies and what you like to do in your free time. Click here to get to your French lesson. Click on 'full tutorial' and it will give you 10 phrases to learn. Have a go at repeating the phrases out loud to help you remember them but be careful with your pronunciation as it's not always written how it's said. Work through the 4 activities and then it will take you to the games section. Choose a game to complete then have a go at the multiple choice test to see what you can remember. We'll be practising and using these phrases over the next couple of weeks so by half term, you'll be experts!
Don't forget to give yourself some breaks and get some fresh air and exercise if you can. I wonder if you can teach your parent anything new this week?
Have a lovely day.
Easter Holidays
From Friday 3rd April to Sunday 19th April it's your Easter holidays, wooo!! This means I won't be posting daily messages here but I will still be checking emails every now and then so feel free to keep sending me pictures, videos and updates. During this time I do not expect you to complete any extra work however if you want to complete any work from your pack or Purple Mash then I won't stop you. I would like you to keep up with reading, either on Bug Club or one of your reading books, and write it in your reading record and do some ttrockstars.
Keep an eye out for Mrs Evans' challenges on Facebook and Twitter and share your photos there. I'm also going to set my own challenges for you so see how many you can do!
  1.  Bake a cake or some biscuits
  2.  Play a board game with your family
  3.  Watch your favourite film
  4.  Read a book (or a chapter) to your parent or sibling
  5.  Complete a jigsaw
  6.  Tidy your bedroom (and keep it tidy!)
  7.  Help cook your tea
  8.  Do something kind for someone in your family
  9.  Dress up in fancy dress for the day
  10.  Ring a friend or grandparent for a chat
Have a wonderful break and enjoy spending time with your family.
Speak to you all after the Easter holidays!
Fantastic Friday (3/4/20)
Góðan daginn (Gooden Dayun)! (Icelandic)
Yesterday was good fun, I loved seeing all your crazy, Christmassy photos and listening to/reading your funny poems so keep them coming. Look below this message to see the photo of me and my dog taking part, I woke her up from a nap... she was not impressed.
It's Friday so it's times table test time, yayyy!!! So log yourself on to Purple Mash and do the multiplication check, again I've set it as a 2Do just as a reminder. Then click here for week 1's final maths lesson and if you have time why not do some ttrockstars for good measure.
For English, I would like you to make sure you have completed all the grammar and spelling exercises on Purple Mash if you have not done them already. It might not say you have completed them even if you have done it once, this is so you can have more than one go to try and improve your score if you want to. If you've done all the Purple Mash grammar and spelling, write your diary for what you've been up to this week, what you've enjoyed and what you're looking forward to.
For computing, I'd like you to have a go at the free code programme I've set for you. See if you can add a background, character and make the character move, anything else is a bonus. If you've already done this then you can have a play on free code gibbon just to see what you can do. I will be setting some more coding activities after Easter so for now just have a play and see what you can do.
Don't forget about P.E. If you've not done Joe Wicks this morning you could do one of Oti Mabuse's dance classes by following the links in the next column or go outside and play football, basketball or do some gymnastic practise in your house!
Have a fantastic Friday and I will post another message about the Easter holidays below.
Thoughtful Thursday (2/4/20)
Привет (Preeviyet)!
I hope you had a good day yesterday and didn't play too many tricks on your family. Before we begin, we're having Christmas Jumper and/or Crazy Hair day for a bit of fun so QUICK, go and get yourself ready. Don't worry... I'll wait...
Ready?
Ok.
First things first, get an adult to take photo of you in your Christmas Jumper or Crazy Hair. Then ask them (politely of course) to put it on the Thingwall Facebook page, upload it to Twitter or send it in an email to the school office. I can't wait to see all your crazy, Christmassy photos, it will definitely put a smile on my face.
Now for the learning! Start your day off by doing 3 IDL lessons then complete the spelling quiz on Purple Mash if you haven't done so already. Next I would like you to watch a video of Joseph Coelho talking about how to make funny poems by clicking here. Once you've watched the video, I would like you to create your own funny poem. It could be a nonsense poem about an ordinary event, it might use onomatopoeia or it might use your own made up words. Write it into your green notebook and have a go at performing it in a few different ways. I would love to see how creative you've been so you could record yourself saying your poem or take a picture of what you've written and email it to me via the school office. If you have time today, why not read a poem or two, or listen to one being read on YouTube?
For maths, click here  to complete week 1 lesson 4. Watch the video and have a go at the activities either on the printed sheet or in your note book.
Thursday is our day for Topic so I've set you a task on Purple Mash to complete a leaflet on Italy. You will need to use Kiddle, or any brochures or books on Italy you may have at home, to find out about all the physical geographical features like mountains and lakes and about different tourist attractions like cities and resorts. You may want to include something about the food, language or culture of Italy as well. You have about two weeks to complete this work so there's no rush to get it all done today. Take your time, find out all you can and then decide how you will present this information.
I hope you have a fun filled day. I wonder who you can make smile today?
Wonderous Wednesday (1/4/20)
Buongiorno!
Today you don't need to do any work... April Fools! Did you know, in France, April Fools Day is called Poisson D'Avril (April's Fish) and a common joke to play is to stick a paper fish on someone's back?!
Anyway, enough of the silliness! I'd like you to start the day with 3 lessons of IDL and 15 minutes of ttrockstars, today is your last day to play all your studio games and some of you have gone above and beyond with over 40 studio games being played in a week, wow! Also, try to do one of your paper ttrockstars sheet from your pack, either time yourself or have a go at answering all the questions at your own pace.
After this, I would like you to read a book on Bug Club and answer all of the questions and then have a go at week 1 lesson 3 on White Rose Maths. I'd love to know how you're getting on with the maths so get a parent to email the school office and let me know what you think.
Don't forget to listen to the next instalment of Danny Champion of the World. I hope you are all enjoying it, I think Roald Dahl might be one of my favourite authors!
You will see there is also plenty of Purple Mash to be getting on with so keep going. I have started a display board with some of your work so, if you click on sharing, you can have a look what your friends have created and I will continue to display your wonderful work as the weeks go by.
As it's Wednesday, there is a science activity there for you to do but why not find the Sound Hunt sheet in your Home Learning Pack and investigate what sounds you can hear at home, I wonder if there is anywhere that is silent?
We also now have a gallery on our VLE so keep sending me your pictures of everything you're up to!
Have a great day!
P.S Have you managed to work out what languages I've used so far as greetings?
Top-notch Tuesday (31/3/20)
Guten Morgen!
How are you all? It's been wonderful seeing all your work come in and your pictures on twitter and via email, it has really made me smile (and miss you all!).
Anyway, this morning I would like you to do week 1 lesson 2 of the White Rose Maths following the link below.
https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-4/
I hope you've enjoyed the start of Danny Champion of the World, listen to the next instalment today after you've had a play (try to get outside if you can).
For English, I would like you to have a go at some of the grammar activities from your learning pack. Then I have put quite a few activities on Purple Mash so go on there and complete some of the tasks you've not done already.
As it's Tuesday, be creative and do some art. If you've not already, have a go at some concentric circles based on the work of Kandinsky and don't forget to see me your photos!
Speak to you soon.
Marvellous Monday (30/3/20)
Bonjour!
I hope you've all had a wonderful weekend and had some fun with your family. I have enjoyed reading (a fictional book about Henry VIII), chatting with friends online and spending time with my dog who is enjoying all the snuggles.
Hopefully you're starting to get into a bit of a routine with your home learning, don't worry if not it will feel very strange for quite a while. Today is Monday so ask a parent to test you or test yourself on your week 25 spellings. This weeks word of the week is STRANGE so see if you can use it in your diary. After your spelling test, I'd like you to do 3 lessons of IDL and then write about your weekend in your diary. If time before play, read some of your book. Don't forget to write it in your reading record!
We've got an exciting treat for you this week, you will now be able to find a reading by Mrs Holroyd of our next book  below this message so you can recreate snack and story at home! Unfortunately it's not The Explorer so we will have to finish that one at a later date (or you could read it yourself if you have the book). So enjoy the start of Danny Champion of the World by Roald Dahl.
After play, snack and story, I would like you to follow the link to White Rose Maths where you will find a video and some activities that I would like you to complete. The answers can be written in to your green book.
https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-4/
I would like you to do Week 1 Lesson 1.
For music, you could practise the recorder using YouTube tutorials or follow the link to have a go at learning 'I can sing a rainbow' in sign language.

Feel free to get a parent to video it and send an email to the office so I can see what you've been up to!
Have a great day!

Fabulous Friday (26/3/20)
Bom dia!
It's Friday which can only mean one thing... times table test YAY! I know you've been looking forward to it all week so log yourself on to Purple Mash and complete the times table check, I've even set it as a 2do so you won't forget. If you can't get on to Purple Mash, see if an adult can test you. After that, why not do some ttrockstars for good measure, remember I want you to do 5 studio sessions and then I've challenged you to a Rock Slam so see if you can beat my score of 24!
For English, have a go at a reading comprehension from your pack and carry on with the story you started yesterday. I wonder if you can include a fronted adverbial and expanded noun phrase in your writing today?
As it's Friday, have a go at the coding work you've been set on Purple Mash. If you're unsure what to do, you can access video tutorials by going on to Computing --> 2Code --> 2Code Video Tutorials and find out how to change the background, add a character and get it to move. I will be setting more guided tasks on coding soon but for now have a play and see what you can do.
Don't forget about P.E.! I hope you've been joining in with Joe Wicks every morning. I certainly have and my legs will be grateful for the rest over the weekend!
A special treat today is that Chester Zoo are doing a virtual tour of the zoo from 10am to 4pm. Ask an adult to log into Facebook or search Chester Zoo online for a unique opportunity to see your favourite animals (you could even write about it in your diary)!
Have a lovely weekend, relax and enjoy the time you get to spend with your family.
Speak to you on Monday, tchau!
Thrilling Thursday (26/3/20)
Buenos dias!
I hope you're all well. I am really grateful for this beautiful weather we're having at the moment and for the fact the flowers and blossom are starting to bloom. What are you grateful for today?
Today I would like you to do the grammar activity on Purple Mash around direct speech. It might be a little bit tricky (a little birdy told me the commas were a bit confusing) but try your best and remember to develop our growth mindset we embrace the challenge! I would also like you to do some writing in your green notebook, I'm going to post a picture below that includes some story ideas and I want you to have a go at starting a story using one of them. You don't need to finish it today so write the date in each time you write to help keep track.
For maths, I would like you to carry on with some of the maths from your pack and then do ttrockstars. You may notice that you can only do studio, once you've done 5 studio sessions you'll be able to access the rest of the site. I have also challenged you all to beat my score, can you get more that 24?
It's topic Thursday so, if you've not already, why not complete the Tudor clothing sheet comparing different Kings and Queens?
I love seeing what you're up to so keep me updated!
Adios!
Wonderful Wednesday (25/3/20)
Good morning lovely year 4s! I hope you're doing well and enjoying learning from home. It's been wonderful to see what what you've been up to whether that's photos on twitter or receiving your work on Purple Mash. As you might have seen, I've begun to set some work on Purple Mash for you to complete including some maths, English and computing. The Fraction Wall game is proving to be popular, I think the top score is 18 so far, I wonder if you can beat it? Don't forget you can have more than one go to try and improve your score.
This morning, have a go at some maths from your home learning pack and you could do a ttrockstars sheet that's in your pack as well. For English, log yourself on to Bug Club and read a book, don't forget to answer all of the quiz questions. Then why not write a book review in your green note book, tell me what the book was about and what you thought about it.
As it's Wednesday, it's time for some science! In your home learning pack you will find some information about the ear and an activity to label parts of the ear. You were superb at this in class so let's see what you can remember. If you've not done Joe Wicks' P.E. lesson at 9am, do some P.E. you could make up a dance or join in with Oti Mabuse's dance class at 11:30am on her YouTube channel and you'll be ready for Strictly in no time!
Have a wonderful Wednesday!

(24/3/20)
Hello, welcome to Terrific Tuesday!
Why not start your day off with the body coach at 9am to shake yourself awake https://www.youtube.com/user/thebodycoach1 . After that, log yourself into IDL and do 3 lessons. There were some issues getting on to various websites yesterday as lots of pupils were trying to get on to the same thing so if you can't get on, don't panic just try again later. Look in your Home Learning pack for a reading comprehension to complete, if you have time before play time you could even read a book for a little while.
Have a break, go outside (if you can) and relax. Then listen to or read a story before having a go at some of the maths in your pack. If you can, try to do 15 minutes of ttrockstars.
This afternoon, do some art! Can you have a go a some concentric circles like Kandinsky? Or create some abstract art with coloured pencils? If you do, get an adult to email a picture to school, I'd love to see what you've been up to.
Don't forget your daily diary!
Have a great day.

(23/3/20)
I hope you've had a lovely weekend, slept well and are ready for a new day of learning!! (3 action sentence!)
Why not start your morning off with a bang and do some P.E. Search The Body Coach on Youtube and join in with his live class from 9am!
As it's Monday, you could get someone to test you on your spellings, then you've got your home learning pack (green folder) to do. If you're missing story time, follow this link to have a story read to you: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLbpi6ZahtOH6WqEc2d_xcPz0LXAbjfqUkIn the afternoon you could do something creative, practise the recorder or learn some French using BBC Bitesize. Don't forget to tell me what you've been up to in your diary!
Have a wonderful day!
Speak to you tomorrow.
