Year 1 Class Page

Welcome to Year 1

We are up, up and away with our learning!

After some technical difficulties, we can't wait to share with you everything we have been up to.
Happy New Year!

We can't wait to show you some of the exciting learning we will be getting up to in our Spring term.
Year 1 loved showing their car models to Year 2 and answering questions about how they were made and their design.
Happy World Book Day! We loved dressing up as our favourite characters and showing our friends our favourite books. We also tried to think of some silly animal rhymes based on Spike Milligan's famous poem "On the Ning Nang Nong."

On The Ning Nang Nong

Spike Milligan

On the Ning Nang Nong
Where the Cows go Bong!
and the monkeys all say BOO!
There's a Nong Nang Ning
Where the trees go Ping!
And the tea pots jibber jabber joo.
On the Nong Ning Nang
All the mice go Clang
And you just can't catch 'em when they do!
So its Ning Nang Nong
Cows go Bong!
Nong Nang Ning
Trees go ping
Nong Ning Nang
The mice go Clang
What a noisy place to belong
is the Ning Nang Ning Nang Nong!!

Year 1 have loved learning about Lunar New Year and the year of the tiger. We tried prawn crackers, rice and noodles as part of our design and technology and thought everything was delicious! One member of our class was  even inspired to make her own Chinese dragon puppet. Fantastic work!
Year 1 and Year 2 learnt all about Lunar New year. They listened to a story in Chinese and English, tried on traditional Chinese clothing and watched a dragon dance!
This half term are Science topic is animals including humans and we have started to look at different groups of animals. We went bird watching to see what kind of birds we could spot in our playground. We are looking forward to doing some bird watching at home too!
We have really enjoyed learning the story of Beegu and have used lots of drama to help us understand the character. We have 'hot seated' each other, with one person being Beegu and the other asking her questions. We have also used lots of great adjectives to describe what she looks like to act as her mum and dad and write a reward poster to help find her.
As part of our computing topic, we have been thinking about algorithms, the instructions programs need to work properly. We have had a go at giving instructions to others to see if they could make a picture the same as ours. Some great language being used Year 1, well done!
We have missed not being in choral assemblies, so we had a go learning a new good morning song to wake us up ready for our day!
Have a listen and see what you think!
AUTUMN TERM

Autumn 1 was a busy term as we all settled back into school and got going with lots of new learning.
We have also had lots of special visitors during our first half term.
In science we have learnt lots about different materials and enjoyed exploring which materials we could find that were magnetic.
We finished our first half term in Year 1 with a local walk to find all the features of our local area. We spotted a bus stop, a post box, lots of different shops as well as different houses, like a terraced house, a semi-detached house and bungalows.
During our exploration time we have been busy making models and practicing our phonics, to name just a few things!
And not to forget our first disco!
What a busy half term!
We have all continued with a great attitude towards our learning in this 2nd half term and have made our own Poetry Book all about rain as well as writing our own short story about toys.

Watch this!!

We had gingerbread men in our classroom! We have decided we must write a letter to Mrs Evans to let her know.
