Year 1 Autumn

Welcome to our Year One Class Page.

Here we will update you with pictures and information on what the children have been learning. Our class teacher is Mrs Harvey and our teaching assistants are Mrs Jones, Mrs Gillooly, Mrs Skeldon and Miss Durn. Our P.E session is Tuesday and new homework is given every Friday.

What a busy first week exploring our new classroom and getting back into all our school routines. The teachers are so proud of how grown up you all seem!
We have also looked at the stories of The Colour Monster and The Colour Monster goes to school to help us start to think about our different emotions, something we will do lots more of through our PSED lessons this year.
We played a great math's game this morning to help secure our place knowledge to 20.
We are learning to dance in PE this term and to help us with our movements we used scarves. The children really enjoyed using the scarves in their dance lesson.
The children were thrilled this week when we opened our new art books. We sorted out colours of tissue paper into warm and cold colours and then made a beautiful picture depicting the transgression from warm to cold.
We have been learning all about our human bodies today and we have conducted experiments to determine our shoe sizes and the most common eye colour in our class. The most common eye colour in Year One is. . .  BLUE!
As part of our science topic today, we explored our outdoor playground and discovered what we could find using our five senses.
The children had a brilliant time when Freddie Fit came to school.  We joined with year two for an hour session and learnt all about the importance of physical exercise for our mental health.

The children have really enjoyed World Book Day, sharing their stories from home and being comfortable in their pjs.
The children had great fun learning all about the four cardinal directions, north, south, east and west. They played a game outside in the playground on our compass and had to run to the direction Mrs Harvey said.
We have really enjoyed exploring with magnets. We found a lot of things in our classroom that are magnetic.
Miss Yardley organised a really special Christmas PE session. The children went on a Christmas journey where they became snowflakes and reindeers. It certainly helped build up the Christmas excitement.
We have been having lots of fun this Christmas, we have had breakfast with Santa, our class Christmas party and a puppet show.
Sheema from MEAS visited us today to talk about inclusion and diversity. We met Alesha, a little girl from Pakistan, who had recently come to the Wirral. We all agreed we should treat everybody with kindness and we should not treat someone differently because of their skin colour.
The children have loved discovering all about pop art today. We were impressed with how colourful and eye-catching it is. We learnt all about the famous pop artist Andy Warhol and couldn't wait to try out his techniques for ourselves.
The children are really enjoying our new role play area. Year One's doctors surgery is now open for patients.
As part of Children's mental health week, we enjoyed a visit from Flourish to help us recognize how amazing we are. We did lots of confidence building activities and had some time to reflect on what makes us all special.
To celebrate the end of Children's health week, we all came into school in our own clothes for Dare to be different day. Everyone made such a huge effort and looked fantastic. The world would be so boring if we were all the same.

We have started our new maths topic - length and height -we had great fun ordering ourselves by height.
